Michael and Helen Schack and their children Hannah, Rebecca, and William live at Yarpturk Victoria Australia.
On the Schack side, this family is descended from Heinrich and Margarethe Schack, who lived in Germany in the 19th century. Their offspring were Heinrich, Peter, Gretchen, Lena, Willie (real name Johann Nicolaus Wilhelm), Marie, and Doris. The Australian branch of the family stemmed from Johann Nicolaus Wilhelm Schack (born Hohnstorf Germany 1860, died Geelong, Victoria, Australia 1952) who married Sophie Marie Catherine Passow (born 1864, Varmstorf, Germany, died Beulah, Victoria, Australia 1908). There are some conflicting spellings of "Nicolaus" on various documents, but his "last will and testament" has it spelled "Nicolaus".
Johann Nicolaus Wilhelm Schack married three times - to Sophie Passow, Mary Worrall, and Amy Hall. Legend has it that whilst living at his parents' house in Germany he asked his father (Heinrich) for his bank book, saying that he wanted money to see Port Hamburg. He did not tell his father that he intended to go further than Hamburg to Australia. Shipping records show that Johann Nik [sic] Schack arrived in Adelaide aboard the Etna on 10th November 1883. He signed a "Memorial by an alien for naturalization" form on 12th November 1883. These are the details - SCHACK Johann Nikolaus [sic] Wilhelm; mason of Adelaide, Caltowie; native of Hohnsdorf near Luneburg, Province Hanover, Prussia [Germany]; age 23 y; in SA 2 days, arrived steamer "Etna"; Memorial 12-11-1883; Certificate 28-1-1886; Source(s) GG 28- 1-1886, A711, A733 (v33).
